In the January 5 edition of Niagara This Week, Craitor is quoted: "Let me say, this is Kim Craitor the person talking, that I do not approve having the HST on hydro bills."

Craitor has become the first Liberal MPP to openly criticize his party's tax plan, but he likely won't be the last.

"I'm not surprised that Dalton McGuinty's MPPs are starting to get nervous," said NDP Finance Critic Peter Tabuns.

"McGuinty's HST on everything from home heating to haircuts is making life less affordable for families. It never made sense to slap an unfair tax on basic necessities and Liberal MPPs are finally waking up to that."

Tabuns expects more Liberal MPPs to break ranks.

"The HST is driving up the cost of living and every MPP is hearing about these challenges on a daily basis," he said.

"I wouldn't be surprised to hear more criticism of the HST from increasingly desperate Liberal MPPs as we get closer to the election."

In the meantime, Tabuns is calling on people to visit www.unfairhst.ca [1] and sign the NDP's petition to take the HST off home heating bills.
