TORONTO – NDP Child Care critic Bhutila Karpoche (Parkdale-High Park) released the following statement in response to Doug Ford asking municipalities not to help families get affordable child care:
“I’m appalled that Doug Ford criticized municipalities for trying to help families in desperate need of affordable child care.
Instead of taking shots at local governments for doing the right thing, Doug Ford should do his job and secure an affordable child care deal with the federal government for Ontario now.
If other provinces can manage it, there’s no reason for Ontarians to still be waiting. The pandemic has disproportionately impacted women. The impact of the she-cession is real. We need to make it possible for families to get back to work. Ontario needs access to affordable childcare now.”
