GÉLINAS CHALLENGES CONSERVATIVES TO PASS PATIENT-TO-NURSE RATIOS BILL AND END NURSE BURNOUT

Published on June 4, 2024

QUEEN'S PARK — Official Opposition NDP Health Critic France Gélinas and healthcare leaders across Ontario are calling on the Conservatives to pass the Patient-to-Nurse Ratios for Hospitals Act, 2024. Nurses have been calling for this model, which is scheduled to go up for debate later today.

"Our healthcare system is in crisis, with no relief from this Conservative government. We are handing them a solution that could do a lot to end nurse burnout today," said Gélinas.

"We don't have to look far to see this working. In BC, the NDP government is implementing nursing ratios. The Conservatives could do the same if they weren't worried about playing politics and cared about the people of this province and our healthcare workers.

"The Conservatives must stand with workers today and implement this long-overdue measure. Nurses have been asking for this, studies are calling for this, and most importantly, Ontarians need this bill to be passed."
