TORONTO — Chris Glover, the Ontario NDP critic for Technology, Development and Innovation, released the following statement in response to reports by the Globe and Mail and The Logic that Ontario has quietly allowed Loblaws to put self-driving delivery trucks on the road, and may have provided funding for their efforts:
"We all want Ontario to continue to be the fastest-growing tech hub in North America. To live up to that goal, we need the government to communicate openly with the public.
It’s concerning to learn that self-driving trucks have hit the road in Ontario without any signal from the government, or information about important considerations like cost and safety.
Why is the Ford government hiding from media after quietly allowing Loblaws to put self-driving trucks on the road in Ontario? The public deserves accountability and transparency.”
