QUEEN’S PARK – Official Opposition NDP Leader Marit Stiles raised questions about the Ford government’s decision to raise energy bills after media reports revealed that the government was worried about “substantial costs” to Enbridge before overturning a decision that would save ratepayers billions.
“Instead of helping people during an affordability crisis, the government decided to keep forcing hardworking Ontarians to pay for Enbridge’s subsidy. It’s clear that the Ford government is more concerned with helping a giant company than consumers struggling with high energy bills.
“Yesterday, we saw that top officials in Ford’s office were not just communicating with Enbridge officials but coordinating with them. Did the government give preferential treatment to Enbridge to undermine regulator and drive-up consumers’ energy bills? Who is this government working for: is it the people or the executives?”
