Fiscal update shows Ford pressing forward with big cuts

Published on February 15, 2022

WATERLOO – Ontario’s third quarter fiscal update shows that Ford is refusing to undo his big cuts to health care, public education and public health. NDP Finance critic Catherine Fife (Waterloo) released the following statement:

“Today’s fiscal update shows that Ford is still not undoing his cuts, and investing in the things people really need. Families need more nurses and health care workers in their communities, and more teachers and education workers in their children’s schools. Families are expecting their government to spare no expense to clear the catastrophic surgery backlog, which will take years to get through while people are waiting in pain. There was nothing in today’s update about tackling the big challenges facing families right now.

Instead of taking this opportunity to help Ontarians, Ford is pressing forward with his big cuts to health care, and public health, and cutting even deeper in education. Last week’s report from the Financial Accountability Officer confirmed billions more in cuts are yet to come, as Ford sets the stage for big tax breaks for his buddies in wealthy corporations.

Yet again, Ford’s priorities are clear, he’s not in it for families. If the Ontario NDP were in government today, we would be investing in the services people need right now.”
