Regarding: Hate Crime at construction site near Michael Garron Hospital
Dear Minister,
On July 2nd, we sent you correspondence regarding the hate crime that had taken place at the EllisDon construction site at Michael Garron Hospital. To date our offices have not had a response to this letter.
You will recall that on June 30, 2020, we co-hosted an on-line meeting to discuss with constituents the occurrence and multi-level responses needed to address horrific finding at MGH. You and your staff had been invited several times to attend. Our earlier correspondence outlined our disappointment that there was no representation or leadership shown by your ministry at that meeting.
Could you please acknowledge receipt of this letter and provide us with a response and time-line of the review requested in our closing request:
“We now ask you to take action, starting today, to initiate a review of work sites for evidence of racial harassment and hate crimes and to initiate measures immediately to safeguard the well-being of Black, Indigenous, and other people of colour.
People expect no less. Inaction is consent.”Sincerely,
Peter Tabuns Rima Berns-McGown
