Ford government still refusing to take Science Table advice on vaccines

Published on April 29, 2021

QUEEN’S PARK — Ontario’s Science Table has repeatedly recommended that 50 per cent of all vaccines go to 74 hotspots in the province. Once again, the Doug Ford government is ignoring the science, and allowing COVID-19 to continue to spread.

The Science Table said it would take 25 days to vaccinate 74 hot spots.

“Doug Ford and his MPPs are clearly still worried more about vaccine politics than about people’s lives,” said NDP Deputy Leader Sara Singh (Brampton Centre). “We need a concentration of vaccines aimed right at hotspots until those blazing COVID-19 fires are under control. Instead, Doug Ford is spreading those doses out over 114 postal codes — some of which are not hotspots — and time limiting this action for a pathetically inadequate two weeks.

“Peel has been on fire for over a year. Doug Ford has been letting the virus run rampant through our workplaces and families for a year. This is a pathetically inadequate action.”

“In Scarborough, people lined up at midnight last night to get a vaccine today. Thousands are turned away every day,” said Doly Begum, NDP MPP for Scarborough Southwest. “People in my community are so frustrated by this government’s choice to leave Scarborough behind — and I know folks in Peel and other hotspots feel the same way. Essential workers are paying an incredibly high price for this government’s vaccine politics. Some pay with their lives.”
