Horwath responds to Ford’s re-opening announcement

Published on February 8, 2021

QUEEN’S PARK — Official Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement in response to Premier Doug Ford’s announcement that the province will re-open for retail starting tomorrow and concluding Wednesday at Feb. 22:

“Doug Ford is still refusing to invest in paid sick leave for all workers, more staff and infection control in long-term care, in-workplace COVID-19 testing, or a comprehensive in-school testing program – but he’s going to open all provincial retail shopping by Feb 22. Without those stronger public health measures, he might be dooming us to the cycle of illness and lockdowns, again and again.

My message to Doug Ford is clear: don’t just re-open things — make it safe to re-open. Stop making the same mistakes again and again.

People deserve hope that this lockdown will be the last lockdown, and that their family members will be safe this time.”
