To the Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
WHEREAS the Auditor General has found that the Government favoured certain developers when removing land sites from the Greenbelt, interfering with assessment criteria to do so and benefitting a select few developers with connections to the current provincial government;
WHEREAS the Government's Housing Affordability Task Force found there are plenty of places to build homes without destroying the Greenbelt;
WHEREAS greenspaces and farmland are what we rely on to grow our food, support natural habitats and prevent flooding;
WHEREAS the provincial government has acknowledged their mistake in tearing up the Greenbelt;
Therefore we the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:
Repeal the 2022 Duffins Rouge Agricultural Preserve Repeal Act and restore provisions in the DRAP Act, 2005;
Amend the 2001 Oak Ridges Conservation Act so lands the government removed from the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan by regulation are a part of the Oak Ridges Moraine Area and the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan;
AND FINALLY, amend the Greenbelt Act, 2005 to protect the lands that the government removed by regulation in 2022.
