Morrison celebrates heritage property injunction

TORONTO — Toronto Centre NDP MPP Suze Morrison issued the following statement after an Ontario divisional court ordered a temporary injunction to halt the demolition of the Dominion Foundry buildings in Corktown:

“This victory is the result of tireless organizing efforts by community members. I am so proud to have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with my neighbours to save this historic and architecturally significant site.

Doug Ford has not revealed any detailed plans for this valuable property, including any developer interest. That made his sneak-attack demolition attempt extremely troubling even before the court’s decision today, which confirms the government broke the law.

Winning this injunction is the first step in a much longer fight. It’s time for Doug Ford to rescind his shady Minister’s Zoning Order for this property, and commit to proper consultation with the community and city officials.”
