QUEEN’S PARK – NDP MPPs Jessica Bell (University – Rosedale) Official Opposition housing critic and Doly Begum (Scarborough Southwest) Deputy Leader of the Official Opposition, issued the following in response to Metrolinx’s sell-off of public land near the Danforth GO station to a private developer for an undisclosed amount:
“Metrolinx and Ford’s Conservatives must stop selling off prime public land to developers with zero commitment to build housing that people can afford. Ontario’s housing crisis is so dire we simply can’t waste precious opportunities like this.
Ford’s Conservatives claim to actively seek opportunities for housing yet allow Metrolinx to do shady transactions on lands that could support affordable, attainable, and non-profit housing to meet Ontarians’ needs.
The Ontario NDP has real solutions to the housing crisis, and that includes building homes on public land that low- and moderate-income people can afford.”
