New Democrats welcome COVID-19 vaccine for five to 11 year olds

Published on November 19, 2021

QUEEN’S PARK – Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea Horwath issued the following statement in response to Health Canada approval of the Pfizer-BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine for five to 11 year-olds:

“Today’s approval by Health Canada of a COVID-19 vaccine for five to 11 year olds is a welcome relief for families across our province. It gives every Ontarian hope for the end of the pandemic, which is why it is inexcusable that parents can’t book appointments for their children yet.

Once again Doug Ford failed to prepare for the moment. While parents in other jurisdictions like British Columbia have the peace of mind that comes with having pre-registered their five to 11 year-old children for vaccination weeks ago, Ford is telling Ontarians to just wait.

I want to thank public health workers across our province from the bottom of my heart. They will step up again to do the hard work that Doug Ford refuses to do — finding ways to get kids registered and vaccinated.”
