QUEEN’S PARK – NDP MPPs are calling for urgent resources to schools in the wake of the tragic death of Landyn, a vulnerable child who died after being left alone at school.
“We can’t wait years to make things better when there are things we could do right now that would make a difference for safety in our schools,” said MPP Chandra Pasma (Ottawa West – Nepean), NDP critic for Education. “Parents and advocates have been coming to Queen’s Park for years warning that something like this could happen. We need to invest in our schools today and ensure every student has the care and support they need.”
“The lack of priority for children and youth with special needs can no longer be placed at the bottom of a list, as the Ford government seems to do year after year,” said MPP Monique Taylor (Hamilton Mountain), NDP critic for Children, Community and Social Services. “For years the Ontario NDP has been calling for real investments that would ensure schools have the resources needed to help all children grow, thrive and learn. We need to make sure Brenda is the last mom who ever endures a tragedy like this. This kind of nightmare for a parent is completely unacceptable in Ontario.”
