BELLEVILLE – Ford and Clark gave empty apologies for the Greenbelt scandal to the camera yesterday – while they run a massive publicly-funded advertising blitz that pushes the busted myth that their corruption scandal has anything to do with housing.
Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition Ontario NDP released the following statement:
“Everywhere I go in Ontario – even in places kilometres away from the Greenbelt – people are angry at this government. They’re angry that Ford and Clark are still refusing to take accountability for something they know is wrong. And they’re angry that when they go on social media, or turn on their radio, they find advertisements pushing their tired excuses.
Ontarians are not fools. This government needs to own up to their actions and reverse this corrupt Greenbelt deal. Trust has been completely broken in by this province, and it can’t even begin to be repaired until Clark is removed from Cabinet.
A housing crisis is no excuse for breaking the law. None.”
Stiles is calling on the Conservatives to pull the plug on this advertising blitz, and more importantly fire Minister Clark from Cabinet, recall the Legislature and return all lands to Greenbelt protection.
Quick Facts
- On August 9, the Auditor General released a scathing report that exposed a ‘flawed’ and biased process that ‘favoured certain developers’
- On August 11, just two days later, a taxpayer-funded advertising blitz began running, repeating the tired talking point that the government is ‘reducing red tape’ to build more homes
- Ford’s own hand-picked Housing Affordability Task Force found that 1.5 million homes are needed – but no Greenbelt land is required
- These ads are paid for with taxpayer money
