QUEEN’S PARK – Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition NDP, is urging the government to make Highway 407 toll-free for trucks.
“Removing tolls on Highway 407 for trucks will help truck drivers save time and money,” said Stiles. "Getting more trucks off the 401 and onto the underused 407 will mean shorter commute times, better freight movement, and thousands of dollars in toll fees saved for truck drivers. It just makes sense."
“Truck drivers spend long, grueling hours on the road. It’s tiring and stressful to be behind the wheel for so many hours, let alone stuck in traffic. Meanwhile, Highway 407 remains underused because of some of the highest tolls in North America.”
This afternoon, Stiles and the NDP will force a vote in the legislature to remove tolls for trucks on Highway 407.
“This is about saving Ontarians time and money, so they spend less time stuck in traffic and get home faster. This solution is a win-win, and it simply makes sense.”
