Stop denying children and seniors badly needed eye care: Horwath to Ford

QUEEN’S PARK — As families enter a second month without access to eye care for kids and seniors, Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is calling on Doug Ford to stop refusing to negotiate a fair deal with optometrists, and finally fund eye care.

“Every day that Doug Ford delays a fair deal and fair funding for eye exams, more children are struggling to see the blackboard and more seniors are at risk of losing their driver’s licence because they can’t get a new prescription,” said Horwath. “By refusing to spend the money to pay for a fair eye care plan, Mr. Ford is forcing children and seniors into crisis.”

All optometry appointments for people under 20 and over 65 have been unavailable for 35 days, even to people who have insurance.

“Eye care is health care. The Liberals underfunded and used delisting to cut vision care. Now Doug Ford has made it worse, and kids and seniors are paying the price. New Democrats won’t stop advocating for kids, teens and seniors to get the vision care they badly need,” said Horwath.
