Finding and staying in an affordable rental unit is becoming more and more difficult every day.
The latest threat to tenants, at least as I write this letter, is news about a government discussion paper calling for the speeding up of tenant evictions and using for-profit bailiffs to carry out those evictions. The more people the bailiffs’ evict the more money they make.
To The Legislative Assembly of Ontario:
Whereas tenants are finding it difficult to cover constantly rising rents, and;
Whereas the government is acting to help wealthy landlord and developer friends make more money;
Whereas some landlords are raising rents in part to drive out tenants so they can rent the units at new, higher rates;
We, the undersigned, petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to take every possible step to stop the government plan to speed up evictions.
